Advantage vs Disavantage of wife filing for my SS benefits now. We need to maximize our income. | | I want to know whether my wife can collect from my social security now. And, if so how does this affect my SS when I apply. I wish to wait to my normal retirement age because filing now would cost me approximately $400+ per month for life. I am now 63. She will be 63 in a couple of months. Her SS benefits are minimal compared to mine. I have been unsuccessful in acquiring SS Disibility though my doctors tell me I am DISABLED. | | asked by RL, 2/4/2010 |

Until you do so, she cannot draw on partner benefits. You should therefore evaluate what your options are in regards to your social security benefits so as to decide how best to proceed. In addition to the Social Security Administration (www.ssa.gov), you can try the articles on Social Security Optimization found on this website.
