QUESTION:

Diet as a Cure to Arthritis

There seems to be a link between diet and pain from arthritis. A friend and long time sufferer of arthritis changed her diet and saw great improvements.

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal said that problem foods (foods that increase arthritis pain) could include: corn, wheat, bacon, pork, oranges, milk, cheese, beef, tomatoes, peanuts, sugar, butter, soy, alcohol, coffee, potatoes, eggplant, and peppers. Different foods effected different arthritis sufferers differently.

The article reported that eating salmon, tuna and sardines as well as walnuts, flaxseed and dark green vegetables (foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids) reduced pain. They also said that ginger was a good pain reducer.

My friend tested eliminating different foods and found that eating fish for dinner three or four times a week, adding flax to her oatmeal and completely eliminating wheat and corn from her diet really improved her quality of life.
