QUESTION:

How long can I leave my pernament home while building a 2nd home?

we want to build another home, but not in the same state, but we don't want to leave our pernament residient vacant while we are building our 2nd home, can we have someone to stay in our pernament resident while we do this

You can certainly rent out your current home while you are constructing your second one, but if you currently have a reverse mortgage, or any other program that requires continuous residency, doing so will terminate such programs. As soon as you are no longer living primarily in the home, it is no longer, legally-speaking, your primary residence.
