QUESTION:

S. 845 Safety of Seniors Act of 2007

What does this bill do? "Reported by the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, this bill would modify the Public Health Service Act to authorize funding for programs to detect, prevent and treat injuries.

"The bill would also direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services to undertake research, education and other activities aimed at reducing the extent and effects of falls among older adults."

How much funding is provided? "S. 845 would authorize the appropriation of $58.4 million for 2008 and such sums as may be necessary for fiscal years 2009 and 2010 for the specified activities."

Who benefits? Who is provided funding under this bill? "State, local, and tribal governments could benefit from grants and other assistance programs authorized by this bill."

What else? I didn't know that this Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions existed. It apparently has oversight over issues that affect Senior Citizens. And as such, it may be useful to Google it. And if I were involved with a local hospital or YMCA or other organization that was involved with rehabilitation, I would let them know that there is potential Grant Money for research to "undertake research, education and other activities aimed at reducing the extent and effects of falls among older adults." This would be a valuable source of funding and employment in my local area.

I retired from a career in Aerospace and Satellite technology, but, hey, I was a manager responsible for budgets, funding, etc. So I guess I might be able to have some ability in this area, too.
