I commend your continued engagement with your community. The idea of retirement as a 20 year vacation seems a little crazy... It is important to stay vital -- for your own sake and the welfare of those around you.

I think that a lot of your anxiety is related to retiring at 65. It is important to understand that you need not ever retire. People who retire at 65 will likely spend 20 or more years in leisure. That is a lot of time! Find a job you enjoy and keep working. No need to "retire." You can "retire" in a job you like. Also, know that there are so many people in your situation.

You are probably looking for responses from someone who does actually summer and winter in two houses... which I don't. But, I couldn't help but respond anyway. I could not imagine maintaining two seperate households. However, I could imagine renting something long term (a month or two). If I considered my winter place to be more of a vacation home it would seem less daunting. My husband on the other hand might love having two houses... and so we are discussing it. Questions we are asking ourselves include: - What would we do with the unoccupied house? How easy would it be to rent out? Where would we keep our own stuff? Etc... - Could family visit with us in both places? - Cost is a big factor, of course... Not to mention taxes, etc... Anyway -- Wishing you lots of fun wherever you are Summer or Winter.
