• Question
  • Transition to retirment job

    Asked on 9/16/2012

DO I have to wait until my retirment papers are finished processing? How soon can I go to my new retirement job? I have already filed for Immediate Federal retirment ( under FERS) requested for nov. 1, 2012. My new job would like me to start by Oct. 18th. I'm 63 yrs young, with 23 years of federal service. Are there any penalties ? Any advice would be most appreciated. thank you.

  • Hi,

It sounds like you should check with FERS or whichever entity is providing your federal retirement to see if there are any issues with claiming your federal retirement while you work at a new job.
